Large format camera takes a picture of me!

Large format camera taking a picture of me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

While taking a walk on the Huntington Beach Pier today (the calm before the storm), I noticed a person setting up their large format camera to photograph the pier. I must have been at the center of his frame because he was pointing straight at me. I’d love to see the photo he took of me!

I’m sure it was a setup shot for a much more dramatic photograph he/she planned to take at sunset. Perhaps one like the sunset photo of Huntington Beach Pier I took a few weeks ago.

The birds admiring the Bell-Boeing Osprey

A Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey over Huntington Beach

While taking a walk in the Huntington Beach Pier over the weekend (before the rain), far in the distance I managed to photograph what seemed to be a Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey. I kept the birds in the foreground, seemed appropriate in this arrangement.

I used my Nikon D7000 and a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF lens. Shot at 2oomm (300mm due to the DX 1.5 crop factor), f/8 at 1/1250 seconds and set at 400 ISO. With the 1/1250 shutter speed I was also able to stop the propeller blades in motion! ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s difficult to see just how far it was, trust me it looked like a spec in the sky from my point of view.

1946 Ford Woody Sportsman at the Huntington Beach Pier

Hot Wheels 1946 Ford Woody Sportsman at Huntington Beach, California.

If you haven’t noticed yet, in reality the car is very small, about 1:64 scale, which translates to about 2.5-3 inches long. Not very big is size, but big in class! You can find more info on size and scales for Hot Wheels here: Diecast4less.com.

The car is part of Hot Wheels Limited Edition 2 car Hot Wheels Surf’s Up set. While visiting the HB Pier I placed the car on the cement sitting area at the entrance to the pier. Using my Canon Powershot G12, I used the macro feature in the camera and focused on the car. This allowed me to blur the background and get the desired affect you see above.

Since I can’t afford the real car, this will have to do for now! ๐Ÿ™‚

Colorful facades at the Santa Monica Pier

Santa Monica pier colored buildings

Colored restaurant buildings at the base of the Santa Monica Pier.

Found these very colorful facades at the base of the Santa Monica Pier. Taken around 3:30pm, the sun brightened up the colors nicely. Weather in southern California is always crazy, because we can have an 80 degree day then in 48 hours expect a large storm. It’s interesting to visit the Santa Monica Pier before a storm, it’s always so beautiful!

Photo was taken with a Nikon D7000.
