Baby Elephant at Roar and Snore in San Diego Safari Park

Safari Park in San Diego

Baby elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park

I captured this image of a four day old baby elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. My wife and I were at the Roar and Snore camping adventure that allows you to spend the night in tents inside the park. For more on that program I wrote up a full review of the Roar and Snore experience.

The good thing is that is also includes two full day passes (day before and after camping). So we were able to roam the park at our own pace and take lots of photos. The baby elephant was very popular, but he/she was not always visible. We lucked out on our first visit, he was very close to the viewing area.

Later at night the baby elephant was too far away and hiding behind it’s mother, so our day visit was worth the trip. If you visit the elephant enclosure look for the large square cutouts on the fence, this allows you to photograph them without having the fence blur your pictures. That’s how I took the photo above.

One of the other highlights of the trip included the lions, I was able to capture them roaring in the early morning. About 6:30 am, we walked over to the area and I captured the video below.
