City Of Alhambra’s Arch is an Oddity

City of Alhambra Arch on Valley Blvd

City of Alhambra Arch way – Oddity

Yesterday I passed by this arch on the corner of Fremont and Valley Boulevard in the City of Alhambra. It stuck out like a sore thumb amidst a few homes in the background and a busy intersection. Like a bad dream from MAD Magazine making fun of the original Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but in a bad way.

Apparently it was built last year in 2010 and cost about $300,000. The problem, besides the price tag? It looks very awkward in that location. Doesn’t seem to fit the surroundings, plus it’s in an intersection that is very busy with cars and very little if any pedestrians. So why here and why this thing? Seems people over at the Alhambra Source also seem to feel the same thing.

But one person’s eyesore could be another person’s Arc de Triomphe! What do you think?
