Large Crowds Gathered at the 2012 US Open of Surfing

Huntington Beach

Large crowds gathered in Huntington Beach for the final day of the 2012 US Open of Surfing.

Earlier this month Huntington Beach was host to the largest surfing competition and festival in the world. The US Open draws in over half a million people over it’s nine day run. I was there for six of those days taking lots of photos. So many pictures that on day six my camera shutter clunked out!

I was so exhausted from the long week that I’m barely now looking them over to post on the OC Surfing Picture site. I managed to take over 3,500 photos of the event before my shutter blade broke on my Nikon D7000. So on the final it was a back-up camera that saved the day.

You might recall last year’s photo, well it was pretty much the same number of people crowding the beach. Actually, I believe this year it drew in a record number of people. The crowds seemed so huge. As you can see it was standing room only on the south side of the HB Pier.

Due to the high number of photos I took this year, I’ll most likely update this post later and add a gallery with more pictures. Or better yet, these guys have a large gallery of high resolution photos of the 2012 US Open of Surfing.
